About us

The City of Blockchain ViennaTM is an independent and private association in cooperation with the Vienna City Administration. Our goal is to establish Vienna on an international stage as a leading center of blockchain and cryptographic technologies attracting comprehensive know-how, technical and business experts, specialized start-ups and visionary entrepreneurs, interested corporates and family businesses as well as other organisations and stakeholders to our ecosystem.

We promote research, initiatives and projects around blockchain and cryptographic technologies, support startups and connect them with established enterprises, and organize conferences, hackathons, and other professional events.

With international connections to similar centers and organisations, we also assure the City of Blockchain ViennaTM´s integration into the global network of blockchain and cryptographic technology innovation hubs.

Horst Treiblmaier is Full Professor and Head of the Department of International Management of Modul University Vienna. Previously, he was a Visiting Professor at Purdue University, UCLA and UBC. He participated in various EU programs and worked for the European Technology Platform ALICE (Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe). He currently serves as an Associate Editor at AIS Transactions on Human-Computer Interaction.

Ulrike Huemer is CIO of the Vienna City Administration since 2014. In this function, she is particularly committed to the digitization as a key driver for business, society, and administration. Moreover, that women are involved to a greater extent in ICT. Therefore, two initiatives were launched for this purpose: the Digital Agenda Vienna and the Digital City Vienna. Ulrike holds a master iur. degree of the University of Linz.

Wolfgang Tichy is partner at Schoenherr, a leading corporate law firm in Central and Eastern Europe, since 2005. A specialist for new technologies, commercial contracts, and start-up services, he is also vice chairman of the Federation of Young Industry Vienna. Wolfgang completed his law studies at the University of Vienna, earning a Mag. iur. degree in 2003, and at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, earning a Mag. rer. soc. oec. and a doctorate degree in 2006. He was admitted to the Austrian bar association in 2010.

In this function, he is responsible for the development of sustainable market strategies and the expansion of business activities in Austria. Before he was CEO of Camadeus Film Technologies living and working almost 2 years in Los Angeles. Michael Zettel studied Business informatics at the Technical University of Vienna and at Leeds University in England.

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Friedrich G. Schneider is Professor of Economics at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz. He was President of the Austrian Economic Association and the German Economic Association. Friedrich Schneider published more than 70 books and 200 articles, and is active member in several scientific organizations. He studied Economics and Political Science at the University of Konstanz, Germany, and holds a master degree and a doctorate both in economics, and 4 honorary degrees of doctorate.

Max Tertinegg is CEO and founder of Coinfinity, an expert center for Bitcoin and cryptographic currencies located in Graz, Austria. Coinfinity creates products and solutions around Bitcoin, operates Austria’s first Bitcoin ATM and offers consulting services and helps merchants accept Bitcoin payments. Max believes that Bitcoin and blockchain technology will essentially change how society interacts in the years to come. Max holds an information design degree of the Joanneum University of Applied Science in Graz.

Erwin Smole is the Grid Singularity co-founder responsible for sales and managing director of Smole Energy Solutions GmbH since 2011. Boasting over two decades of experience in the energy sector, Erwin held senior management positions in utilities and regulatory authority E-control. Before he was director of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the multinational professional services network and one of the Big Four auditors. Erwin is lecturer at the University of Applied Science in Villach/Carinthia and holds a M.Sc and a MBA degree.

Erwin Smole

Alfred Taudes holds a Magister Degree in Management Information Systems from Vienna University, a doctoral degree in Business Administration and a PhD from WU Vienna in both fields. He was visting professor at Universities Augsburg, Münster, Essen and Tsukuba, Japan and joined WU in 1993. There he coordinated large scale research projects. Alfred has published more than 150 articles in international top journals. His actual research interests are on the impact of Big Data on Operations and knowledge creation in Start-ups.

Peter Gönitzer is General Manager at Wien Energie GmbH since 2015. Before he was Head of Group Controlling and Accounting at the Wiener Stadtwerke Holding AG and Deputy Head of Group Controlling at the Wiener Linien GmbH & Co. KG. Peter studied commercial science with specialization in commercial law and revision at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, earning a Magister degree in 1998.

Oliver Holle is CEO and founder of Speedinvest, an early stage VC fund based in Vienna. Oliver is a serial entrepreneur with deep experience in the mobile and internet industry. While still a student in 1992, Oliver founded SYSIS, one of the first European internet startups that took smart, interactive games to the exploding online market. He has invested in more than ten startups, i.e.,, or He holds a M.Phil in Economics of the Columbia University of New York, and a Mag. Bus. Admin. of the Vienna University of Economics and Business.

Petra Hauser is CEO and founder of Exponential Business Hub (XBH) in Vienna, Austria, and team leader of the Team Vienna Chapter of the Singularity University since 2016. Before she was CEO of, Sat.1 Austria, and of RTL Wien. Petra studied economics at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University, Germany, and social and business communications at the University of Arts in Berlin. She holds degrees in economics and communications.

Sebastian Aigner is CEO of 21 Group AG, an early stage venture capital and crowdinvesting corporation connecting online and offline investing through its firstcap value creation platform. Before, he was head of business development and team leader in several financial services institutions. Sebastian holds degrees in corporate finance of the Danube Business School and in finance of the Danube University Krems, Austria, the University for Continuing Education.

Sven Glöckner is head of Corporate Investment Management of Raiffeisen Informatik GmbH since 2007 and commercial director of direct to document (d2d) GmbH, the printing services company jointly owned by Raiffeisen Informatik and Österreichische Post AG. Sven has more than 20 years of professional experience in business consulting, innovation management, business development, and group accounting. Sven studied business engineering at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, Germany.

Christian M. Piska is Associated Professor at the Institute for Constitutional and Administrative Law at the University of Vienna since 2002, specialized in public and economic law, particularly in cryptocurrencies. Before he was at the Hans-Kelsen-Institut, an Austrian federal foundation with the task of documenting the "Pure Theory of Law". Christian studied law at the University of Vienna and holds a master degree and a doctorate with distinction in legal sciences. In 2002, he habilitated in constitutional and administrative law.

Gerald Resch is Secretary General of the Austrian Bankers’ Association since 2014 and a Member of the Executive Committee at the European Banking Federation. In his function he especially promotes the digital transformation of the banking sector and supports several initiatives in this context in Austria. Before he was Managing Director of the integrated supervision department at the Austrian Financial Market Authority. Gerald studied law and business administration at the University of Graz, where he also holds a doctoral degree.

Daniel Döller is Head of Energy Services of the Österreichische Post AG since 2016. Before he was head of the retail business and director of business development and operations of goldgas, a German natural gas supplier, and markets manager at KPMG, the professional service company and one of the Big Four auditors. Daniel studied business administration and is organizer of the Austria Triathlon.

Walter Mösenbacher is Director of Raiffeisen E-force, the internet competence center of Raiffeisen Banking Group Austria, since 2000. Before he was head of the internet and new media group of Raiffeisen Zentralbank. Walter studied social and economic sciences in Graz, obtaining his doctorate in 1995 from the University of Graz. Walter has published several articles in various banking publications.

Bernhard Raberger is Managing Partner of Blue Minds Solutions GmbH since March 2015. The company advises its clients on chances and risks triggered by the transformation of the energy sector as well as supporting, challenging and mentoring startups in this area from early-stage to roll-out. Bernhard graduated from the Oxford University M.Sc. program in ‘Environmental Change and Management’. Before joining The Blue Minds Company, Bernhard was member of the Board of Turkey’s largest privately-owned utility, Enerjisa Group, for seven years.

Michel Vukusic is Head of Digital Business & Innovation at Volksbank Wien AG since 2015. Before he was Head of Strategy & Control of Erste Group Bank AG, CFO at the ecetra Central European e-Finance AG and CEO of the Brokerjet Bank AG. Michel studied at the Vienna University of Business and Economics, earning a Ing. Mag. degree, and is founding partner of NEVU Consulting GmbH.

Mario Drobics is Senior Engineer at the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) since 2012. Before he was Area Manager for Knowledge-Based Technologies at the Software Competence Center Hagenberg and Assistant Professor at the Medical University Vienna. Mario is an expert in the Internet of Things, Assistive Technologies, Data Analytics, and Fuzzy Logic. He studied mathematics at the Technical University Vienna and holds a doctoral degree.

Rainer Will is CEO of the Austrian Retail Association (Handelsverband Österreich) since 2015 and member of the board of the European eCommerce and Omni Channel Trade Association (EMOTA), Brussels, Belgium, since 2016. Rainer completed his Managerial Accounting and Financial Control studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2008 and at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration in 2009, earning a Mag. ing. degree.

Magdalena Isbrandt is CEO of The House of Nakamoto, the first retail shop for bitcoin in Vienna, and Managing Director of Bit-Trust Services GmbH since 2015. Before she was an international business development manager of a safety check service company. Magdalena is a blockchain enthusiast giving lectures and speeches inside and outside of Austria. She holds a bachelor degree of the Free University of Berlin.

After six years of innovation management, scouting and entrepreneurial experience, David R. Prasser founded StartUs, Europe´s leading startup and innovation network, in 2014. Before he was an investment advisor and consultant. David studied business and law at the University of Salzburg, entrepreneurship at the Bowling Green State University, Ohio, and the Fudan University, Shanghai. He holds a master degree in business and law.

Oliver Völkel is partner at Stadler Völkel, attorneys at law specialized in Initial Coin Offerings (ICO) subject to Austrian laws. He is Arbitrator of the Chamber of Commerce’s permanent arbitration court and lecturer in classes of the University of Vienna. Before he was Senior Attorney at CHSH and Associate at DLA Piper. Oliver holds a Mag. iur. and a Dr. iur. degree of the University of Vienna, and a LL.M. degree of the Columbia Law School, New York.

A native New Yorker, Lydia is a managing partner at Lehner Executive Partners, which she joined in 1999, and member of the Board Advisory Practice Group of its mother company Cornerstone International Group with 70 offices worldwide. Prior to this, she worked at Webster Vienna Private University, serving in several functions, while also teaching the course “Women in Management.” In addition to her scientific publications as a molecular biologist, Lydia was President of the American Women’s Association, and is co-founder of the Financial Services Club CEE, a senior executive club.

Thomas Labenbacher is partner at Life.SREDA Venture Capital Ltd., named one of the Top 20 European FinTech Venture Capital companies with offices in US, Singapore, Austria and UK. He is also Vice-Chair of the European networking forum the Financial Services Club founded by Chris Skinner and Vice-Chair of the IOV42 Foundation. Thomas is a serial FinTech entrepreneur, amongst others he co-founded Fidor Bank’s international business. Before that, he was working in executive roles for Raiffeisenbank International, GE Capital and Western Union Bank.

Since more than twenty years she connects businesses, scientists and politicians with high level decision makers and opinion leaders. In her youth she was a serial federal champion in gymnastics.

Andreas Petersson is CTO of Minebox and software engineer for more than 15 years. His most famous creation is Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet, where he successfully secured the funds of more than 100 thousand Bitcoin users. He is an early Bitcoin adopter, ran the first Bitcoin podcast in German, co-founder of Bitcoin Austria and co-founder of GPS Spot GmbH. Andreas advised many Bitcoin/Blockchain related startups and has worldwide reputation as expert in the field.

Giordano Koch is Managing Director of HYVE, the innovation company with the world’s first one-stop shop for innovation under one roof, since 2014. Before he was Team Leader Open Government at Hyve and lecturer at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz and the University of Salzburg. Giordano holds a master degree in corporate management and economics and a doctorate in public management.
